It is the most common statement that you might have heard people talking about- wedding bells ringing. It can be for anything, either for an approaching wedding date or the smell of any-minute-now ‘Marry Me’ proposal. Of course, if you look on the literal side of this phrase, there are bells in churches that are meant for newlyweds to ring as they make their way up to the aisle. But is this all that, ‘ringing wedding bells’ mean? History of Wedding Bells:

Back in time, when the Church needed to announce a prayer service, funeral, or a wedding, it used to ring huge bells which could be heard all across the countryside and town area. There was a myth that was followed by all the people which stated that the sound of mighty big bells before a wedding would scare off any evil spirits or evil eyes intent on destroying the new couple’s prosperous life.

The superstition also believed that this holy bell would bring luck and fortune of happiness to the life of newlyweds. This church bell would ring as the couple walked down the aisle till the time they were escorted out of the Church. It was meant to indicate a new beginning and end of a holy prayer service for binding together two souls.

Modern Wedding Bell Symbolism :

It is not an unknown fact that every custom and tradition has evolved since the time has begun. The superstition behind wedding bells that talked about warding off evil spirits has faded away, but the merriment that wedding bells bring to a marriage has stayed intact to this day and beyond. Their symbolic significance in a wedding to celebrate the couple’s new life together still exists.

The modern twist to wedding bells in a 21-st century is by using it as a decoration material at the wedding venue. This is usually done by two bells joined together at the top using a bow, to depict two people, bride and groom, who have just bonded together in a holy relationship with husband and wife.

Since couples are well aware of the significance of these bells that indicate love and prosperity; they choose to theme their weddings around this holy symbol.

There can be many ways of including this symbol in one’s wedding. If you want to use this symbol as a decoration, these are usually used as tissue wedding bells or plastic wedding bells. Couples can give away small bells as a token of their gratitude in return to all those who gave their blessings and attend the wedding.
