Various Sangeet Ceremonies Celebrated In India

Sangeet ceremony adds a lot of excitement and color to pre-wedding days, across any culture. Recently this fun-filled concept is adopted by other cultures such as Bengali or in South Indian weddings as well. Sangeet Ceremony is loaded with vibrancy, enthusiasm, fun dance as well as melodious songs.

One of the most applauded and appreciated pre-wedding ceremony is the Sangeet ceremony. This vibrant and enthusiastic ceremony is a celebration of the union of the two families. Sangeet ceremony is popular all over India especially among the Punjabi’s, Marwari’s and Gujarati’s. The traditional Punjabi sangeet ceremony also includes colorful performances of Bhangra with the singing of interesting Gidda songs. In The Gujarati, however, Sangeet ceremony is accompanied by performances of garba, which is the traditional dance of Gujarat. Basically, Sangeet Ceremony is held after the Mehendi Ceremony. Before the wedding day, the Sangeet ceremony is held late in the evening and friends and family gets together with dholaks and spoons.

Surrounding the bride they sing traditional wedding songs. The groom is generally referred to as Banna in these songs whereas the bridegroom is known as Banni or Banno. The songs such as ‘Lathe di Chadar’, ‘Kala Doriyaan’‘Laung Gawacha’ is sung with a lot of zeal and fervor.

The traditional aura of the Sangeet ceremony is now blended with modern colors. These days an elaborate set or stage is built for Sangeet ceremony where friends display excellent dance performances.

Now the choreographers also are engaged who give formal training to the friends and family. They teach interesting dance steps and everyone dances to the modern tunes and songs. Uncle and aunties and parents from each side also practice for dance performances to latest Bollywood tunes. The bride and the groom also take part in the performance and dance on the latest romantic numbers.

Even DJ’s are engaged so that a vibrant ambiance is created where guest can also dance to their heart’s content. There is no end to spending money and creating a distinctive aura for sangeet ceremony. You can fulfill all your dreams if money is not a constraint. On rich Indian weddings, even Bollywood celebrities are invited by event management companies to perform on the Sangeet ceremony. Many people even hire renowned singers who sing melodious songs.

Formal attires in vibrant colors are chosen by everyone since sangeet ceremony is one of the most well-liked functions. One chooses the best attire for the sangeet ceremony and bride prefers to wear traditional lehengas. Or if one desires one can also experiment with numerous trendy styles and designs. The groom and other men may turn out in Kurta Pajamas or wear latest F Indo-western outfits such as dhoti pants with kurtas, or a suave waistcoat or traditional Nehru jacket over it.
