  • The interesting thing about Dham is that it is cooked by special women called ‘botis’. The botis are the Brahmans residing in Himachal Pradesh since long and are hereditary chefs. The reason behind choosing the botis is that they are well experienced in this art of cooking and prepare the dishes with the traditional taste and uniqueness.
  • The preparations for Dham lunch start the night before the wedding. The Dham is traditionally cooked in Brass vessels. Also, the food is served in leaf plates which are also known as ‘pattlu’ in a local language.
  • This is a full meal lunch which comprises of Daal, rice and vegetable curry. The cooked rice gives an amazing aroma and mouth-watering taste. The Daals are fried and made tastier with a mixture of highly aromatic spices. The curry is also made with spicy ingredients. The ‘Rajma’ or red kidney beans with ‘Chole’ chickpeas are cooked with yoghurt and different spices which tastes simply heavenly.
  • The taste of this curry is enhanced with the sweet flavours of jaggery and some interesting spices. Also, a dish called ‘Meetha Bhatt’ (sweet rice) is served as a dessert at the end of the lunch. The first dish to be served is rice, which is followed by Daal and curry. The dessert called Meetha bhatt or Kheer is served at the end.
  • This is a very delicious meal served not only during weddings but also during birthday parties, events and functions in Himachal Pradesh. This is a very popular speciality of Himachal Pradesh which people love!
