Kanyadaan is a famous wedding ceremony of the Hindu Weddings which is considered very auspicious and pure! The term ‘Kanyadaan’ means the donation of a daughter and in this ceremony, the father of the bride donates her to the groom! This is a very emotional ceremony for the parents as well for the bride. In Indian tradition, a girl is known as a symbol of prosperity and wealth, that is Goddess Lakshmi. Thus, the donation of a daughter is very emotional as well pious! Here are several other reasons why Kanyadaan is an auspicious ceremony

Kanyadaan is a ritual in which, the bride’s father gives his daughter to the groom while placing her hand in the groom’s hand. In the hand, the father gives the responsibilities of his daughter to the groom. This is done with a hope that he will always take care of her and will give her a happy life ahead! It is considered as a pious and very auspicious ritual performed during the wedding ceremony!

This ceremony is believed to wipe out all the sins of the parents

The groom is considered as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu while the daughter is considered the form of Goddess Lakshmi. The father of the bride has her daughter as the biggest gift which he can offer to the lord!
When he performs the Kanyadaan or offers his daughter to the groom, all the sins are to be washed away! It is believed that the donation of a daughter is very pious and pure which will eliminate all the sins which the parents made in the current or previous births!

1.In this ceremony, the hand of the bride is placed on the groom’s hand and the hands are attached to a pure thread, red cloth, some flowers and betel leaves. Money is placed on the hand and father pours some milk and Ganga jal on the hands.
2.This is considered as a very pure and pious ritual where the priest would enchant the auspicious mantras and verses. This beautiful donation will make the father and mother of the bride attain Moksha!
3.In Indian tradition, it is believed that gift of a maiden is pious and thus, the father gives away his single daughter to the groom who will take care of her for the entire life!
Thus, this ritual is a combination of emotions which the father feels while giving his beloved daughter to the groom. He chooses the best man for his daughter and with all the rituals and the holy kanyadaan ceremony, in front of the holy fire; he gives his daughter’s hand in the groom’s hand forever! Every Indian parent takes part in this ritual and if the parents are not present, the cousins or relatives of the bride perform this pious ritual

Our tradition and culture signify that daughter is the most precious gift to give away while for the groom it is the best gift. Also, it wipes the sins of the bride’s parents and thus, is considered to be holy!
