Most of the people think that culture is an excuse to act without thinking. In rituals, whether they may be secular or religious, we merely do what we have seen and learned from others. We do not know where our traditions came from, but they will make us do some strange things which will not match in our situation.

Traditions in the Catholic wedding

When you prepare for a wedding, you may be surprised to know a lot from the TV or movies or from the last Catholic weddings which you have attended. There are some common traditions in the different Catholic weddings. The bride walks by herself or with her father. The vows are customized and improvised. Lightening the candle and pouring the sand into the vase. The couple is bound with a cord or veil. Placing some flowers at the image of marry. People bless the couple by giving the wedding coins in the Catholic weddings.

Most of the Catholic weddings include the above traditions as they find them to be appropriate for the wedding. These traditions come from a period in the societal culture. The marriage is treated as a contract between the families with the customs. The property and transfer of wealth will play an essential role in the wedding. In this tradition, you can observe how the father will escort his daughter to the groom.

The Catholics believe that both the groom and the bride will treat themselves as equal partners. The bride and groom get escorted by the parents by walking together with each other. This is the sacrament of marriage according to the Catholic weddings.

Parents play a vital role in our lives, and we should share this moment with them. Discussing the options of your wedding with your family will strengthen your character and the relationship with your family. We also find the trends in the traditions of Catholic marriage. They include improvised vows, unity candle, and sand ceremony. These practices are developed recently and are used in both the religious and civil ceremonies.

The unity candle is not a part of the rite but is most common in the Catholic weddings. In some churches, the unity candle is not required and also not allowed.

Some wedding traditions are rooted in the ethnic cultures. The customs include deep meaning for many families, and the couples are invited to this ceremony if they have a conflict in understanding the Christian marriage. In many Hispanic families, the couples are blessed by giving the coins.

A spiritual devotion is developed from our traditions to the Mary. Mary is a role model for living in one’s faith for both the good and bad in everyday life. The Catholics pray to her when they begin their new life together. They place the flowers near her image and offer prayers to her during the wedding. Some want a particular song to be sung to follow the tradition of including a song in their devotion to Mary.

Rituals are the roots of our life. They connect us to the present because they unite with our past. We can have a clear communication as the proper rituals are powerful.
