The best Indian attire any bride from any region of the country could wear is a saree. Saree is one of the most elegant outfits any Indian woman could carry. There are a variety of sarees available depending on the region. The most popular option is the silk sarees. Out of the wedding silk sarees, the kanjeevaram sarees stand out. Kanjeevaram or Kanchipuram sarees originate from Tamil Nadu. The sarees are made from pure mulberry silk with borders woven from zari. The zari is a red thread covered in silver and then dipped in 22K pure gold. As it means, Kanjeevaram sarees can be expensive, hence there are so many dupes available for the same. A reputed store might as well be selling dupes of Kanjeevaram in the name of pure ones at a lower price.
Here are a few points to keep in mind while choosing your wedding silk sarees or Kanjeevaram!
Silk Test
Kanjeevaram is woven from pure mulberry silk. Whenever you want to check if the saree you got is a pure kanjeevaram or not, perform the silk test. Take some threads from the left side of the saree which are left and burn them. When you touch them, the burned threads would turn into ashes. This is the sign of a saree woven from pure mulberry silk. The ashes would smell like burnt leather or burnt hair. Synthetic fibers would make a lump after they are burned.
Zari Test
Zari is the red thread covered with silver and then dipped in 22K gold. No matter what colour is the Kanjeevaram, the zari thread would always be red. To test for originality, remove the zari thread from the pallu which is loose. Take off the gold layer and check if the thread is red. If it is, then it is a pure kanjeevaram.
Time of the event
Choose the colour combination that goes with the time of the event. Wedding silk sarees have the advantage of suiting all time of the day, but there are few colours which should be experimented in the evenings and a few that are best for morning weddings. Pastel shades work best for the morning weddings apart from the basic reds and oranges that define the tradition.
According to the body type
Choose the style of kanjeevaram according to your body type. If you are towards the heavier side, opt for kanjeevarams that have minimal embellishments and more of the border. This would enhance your curves and make you look slim.
Budget
Kanjeevarams can be purchased for as low as Rs. 7000 and as high as 2 Lacs. Fix your budget when you purchase the saree. The budget can be slightly varied if you have found your perfect sarees in a little higher price range.
Wedding silk sarees would always be in trend and no matter what, kanjeevarams can be cherished for a lifetime if proper care is taken and it is maintained well.
